...Just cooking like crazy. Yesterday I was doing housework and cooking and today turned into what was feeling like a marathon of cooking that actually began yesterday with twelve hours of soaking white beans for white chili. It's one of Britt's (Youngest) favorite meals and one I enjoy fixing for her on the nights she comes home for dinner.
She, in turn, brought out a movie I had not yet seen...The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. It was wonderful and we both spent much of the evening laughing and crying and loving the scenery in which the film was made.
We essentially turned the evening into a celebration of sorts for Eldest's thirty-ninth birthday. Eldest is in England but we celebrated without her anyway. This morning began the twelve days of fun for her when she calls her brother daily to remind him that they are the same age.

Now, with the house quiet and Youngest en route to a friend's house for a couple of nights of house-sitting, the yawning has begun and I can barely keep my eyes open. Sounds like short night tonight.

Nice that could be busy and happy.
Blessings,
Frank
I loved that movie. It didn't come to Quincy for the longest time. And finally when it arrived here, M and I went and saw it. It was just so good and so nostalgic for me.
I am so glad you had such a wonderful time with your youngest.
Now that sounds good and I had never thought of using white beans for chili. I cooked a crock pot full of white beans and ham hocks tonight and we had it with corn bread.
Yum. Love white beans. My house smells like a grape aroma factory, but in a pure clean way. We stomped grapes yesterday, and the juice has been reducing on the stove since. Grape butter soon. It was your birthday too, so good thing you celebrated. :)
Sounds like a fine time was had by all.
This post made me happy.
Wanda, that sounds like such fun! There's not much better than cooking for your kids and spending fun times together! :)
Sounds like you had a really fun day ! And white chili is nomnomnomnom =)
Happy birthday to your Eldest and have a good week !What fun! Cook something wonderful for the cooler weather.
Nice to have good family times, even with geographical distance and racist chili.
Oh man that chili sounds like a good idea! I should put some beans on to soak myself.
I prefer cooking beans in the pressure cooker rather than soaking it overnight :D be blessed :D
@ANVRSADDAY - Thank you, Frank. It was a good day.
@ZSA_MD - When this movie hit our area, I asked if we could go see it and he insisted it was a chick flick and wouldn't see it at all after saying he would originally. Oh well, Britt and I had a good time anyway.
I thought about you while we were watching it.
@Grannys_Place - I had never considered fixing white beans with ham until you mentioned it. Then someone posted a picture of them on facebook yesterday and it looked so good, I'll try it next time. It's a chicken chili with no tomatoes and tastes pretty good even if I do say so myself.
@Jaynebug - Hmm...Grape butter sounds pretty good and I love the smell of grapes. Sounds like something to try.
@Bricker59 - Aw Thom! I'm glad this made you happy. It's time I returned the favor you have shared so many times with me.
@StephenKsMom - April, you know personally how I feel about my kids as well as about taking care of them and cooking. I just love days like that!
@Want2FitIn2Fat2Fit - Thank you! I do like it and the idea seemed so suited to the weather. You have a great week, too!
@TheSunnyC - Yes and the cooler weather has gotten even cooler. The lie, er...forecast for today is saying 70 but I just don't see that happening.
@Roadkill_Spatula - It is, Tim, and you would certainly be one to understand that. And you do understand what happens in my "racist" kitchen...black beans, white chili, red chili, split pea soup (for those aliens from Area 51).
@oceanstarr - It was good and seemed just perfect for the weather. The weather guys are suggesting we are supposed to be having a harder Winter than normal and I believe Fall is beating them to the punch.
@tribong_upos - I don't mind soaking the beans nor do I mind fixing the meal in a way to heat the house on days like this. The last pressure cooker I owned was an unpleasant experience for one and all.
@History_Nut - I'm really hoping for a winter colder than last year's. I was miserably hot last January!
@oceanstarr - We're definitely in agreement on that. I haven't warn a coat of any kind since April of 2011. Last Winter felt more like an expanded Indian summer.
