Taking Time To Smell The Roses

We took time today to get out and go see a movie we had been looking forward to seeing. It's not often we see films on their opening day but it was one I really wanted to see as did Britt (Youngest). Even Chuck eventually fell into the excitement and had fun. After commenting yesterday about noise, maybe it's strange that the movie we looked forward to so much was 'Taken 2.' It was excellent and everyone had a good time. Knowing some of the background of what went into making the film made it even more fun for at least one of us.

Tomorrow will mean more housework but such is life. Still, a comment made by Britt a few nights ago made me think. She asked if I had added any more to Bear's story. It's a children's story I have worked on but set aside while doing other things. She also asked if I had been practicing my music. To both questions I could only respond in the negative and that saddened me. My mountain dulcimer and bowed psaltery both sit on the loveseat in the bedroom. The keyboard gathers dust in the hallway. For that matter, even the sewing machine sits unused as do the easel and brushes. Perhaps it really is time to search a bit more for the person I used to be. The difference is... this time I will stay here and reflect on how each bit of progress can be marked and defined, possibly even shared from time to time.

Since I have not had any place to sincerely plant any roses or garden at all, for that matter, my writing and my music had become my garden. Perhaps one little nudge, one small reminder has urged me to stop and smell the roses once more.

I sometimes have a hard time being motivated..It comes and goes..But with all your musical instruments and among your roses it must be paradise non stop...  :)

    Hi Wanda,

Sometimes we just need to coast along in life. I eventually get motivated to do something. lol

My kids and wife have very good ideas for me, but my focus is on trying to be faithful in my simple body  toning exercises since my back is troubling me. I bought a new book and hope I will read some each day.

My dear wife is a go-go kind of gal. Her eyes are always looking for things to do around the house. lol

I  would love to see Taken 2. I saw the star interviewed on the Jay Leno TV show. He seems like a nice guy.

    Have a very nice weekend,

Funny how you mentioned seeing Taken 2 last night. I was watching the first one on tv probably while you were at the movies.

  • Bricker59

loved the first one, can't wait to see part 2.

Continue your creativity my friend. For all our sakes, especially yours.

a dulcimer and psaltry!  I would love for you to share these with us.  as well as your painting, etc.  and your children's story, too.

I want to see the movie .. what are you referring to, that went into making it?  I hadn't heard anything.

    you're a multi-talented person!

Wish you would post some pictures of your paintings. I hope you have a wonderful garden next year with roses growing in huge numbers and you could sit by the bushes and resume writing your bear stories.

  • TheSunnyC

Do take time for your fun music art etc.  It will make you a "better" person and if you don't use your talents you will lose them.

@locomotiv - Other plans and non-motivations seemed to get in the way but I will start doing some cultivation in the next few days.

@andreas_d - I do believe you do have a little experience in that field, Andreas.

@ANVRSADDAY - Frank, you might give some rose hip tea a try for your back. It was recommended to me by a good friend and seems to have helped quite a bit. I don't need to look far to find something to do around the house but am realizing that I need to feed me as well. Taken 2 is well done and the star of it is a nice guy.

@armnatmom - That's probably true. The sequel is excellent!

@Bricker59 - I think you will like it, Thom. Thank you for the encouragement. I'll give it a try.

@plantinthewindow - Now I need to find the camera but I promise to post a few pictures soon. As I've commented here, the movie is excellent (but then, Liam Neeson's work has always impressed me). What I was told was that the filming done in Istanbul used very few extras. Those that seem to be extras such as people on the street and shopkeepers are, indeed, people on the street and shopkeepers. They were advised that the film was being made and would benefit their city and everyone pitched in to make it better. Even the police allowed their cars to be "damaged" and replaced with new ones. It's hard to imagine how much fun that would have been under the circumstances. Thank you, John. I don't know about the talented part but I try.

@ZSA_MD - I will try to post some of them, Zakiah. I fear planting my rose garden would require something other than red clay and that's what we have found three inches below the surface. Hopefully, we can move on at some point before next summer.

@TheSunnyC - Loosing them is something I have feared for a long time. My art took time to regain and I fear the music will take longer. My father would cringe if he knew I had let my 16 years of organ go by the wayside and the dulcimer is a whole different animal. Still, I will work on them.

@History_Nut - Thanks for the  rose hip suggestion. We might even have some of it.

You have such an eloquent way of writing, Wanda! Tend to the parts of your garden that bless you the most right now.

  • warweasel

I'm hoping this winter I'll have more time for the fun things I haven't had time for this summer.  (My drums are collecting dust and that makes me sad...)

  • History_Nut

@ANVRSADDAY - Hope it works for you, Frank.

@StephenKsMom - Thank you, April. Today I spent tending to cooking for tonight's dinner. I love cooking for Brittany because she always appreciates it so much.

@warweasel - I had the same feeling about my instruments. It made me feel like I was neglecting them.
